Trumbull's Craig Breslow, who pitched at Yale and is now a member of the Oakland Athletics,  has done an exceptional job with his Strike 3 Foundation,  "a charitable agency that heightens awareness, mobilizes support, and raises funding for childhood cancer research."



The Strike 3 Foundation will host the Second Annual NYY Steak Luncheon at Yankee Stadium on Friday, July 22, 2011 from 11:30am to 1:00pm.

Enjoy an elegant lunch with your favorite players from the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics. Proceeds benefit childhood cancer research & treatment.

MLB guests (subject to change) include Oakland A's players Brett Anderson, Andrew Bailey, Craig Breslow, Trevor Cahill, Brian Fuentes, Gio Gonzalez, Kurt Suzuki, and Hideki Matsui, and New York Yankees players Eric Chavez and Joba Chamberlain.

Tickets are $500 per guest or $4,500 for a table of ten guests. Ticket sales end at 11:00PM ET on Friday, July 15, 2011. Game tickets are not included.

Events Planned For Weekend Of Sept. 24-26

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Yale field hockey, volleyball and women’s soccer teams will combine efforts for the second annual Team Up To Fight Cancer initiative. The teams will be selling t-shirts for $10 and collecting donations at home athletic events throughout the weekend of Sept. 24-26 to benefit the Yale Cancer Center, with the proceeds being designated to breast cancer research.

The initiative was organized by head coaches Erin Appleman (volleyball), Rudy Meredith (women’s soccer) and Pam Stuper (field hockey).

“It’s exciting to have all three teams fund raising to help fight cancer,” Appleman said. “There is a strong level of volunteer work on campus, and I know all three teams are honored to help with fighting cancer.”

The women’s soccer team will be collecting donations during the Friday, Sept. 24 volleyball game against Albany at 7 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

The field hockey squad will take over collection duties when the women’s soccer team hosts Princeton in its Ivy League opener on Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. at Reese Stadium.

During the Sunday, Sept. 26 field hockey game against Hofstra at 2 p.m. at Johnson Field, the volleyball team will be on hand collecting donations.

Donations may be made in person, via cash or check, at all three events.

Special Team Up To Fight Cancer t-shirts will also be sold for $10 while supplies last. Those who cannot attend but would still like to donate to the Team Up To Fight Cancer Initiative can send checks made payable to Yale University, with “Donation – YCC” noted in the memo to the address below:

The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce (GNHCC) Sports Council will host its first ‘Courtside Chat’ event on Wednesday, October 28, 12-1:30 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center on the York Hill campus of Quinnipiac University.

All 10 area men’s and women’s basketball coaches from Albertus Magnus College, Quinnipiac University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of New Haven and Yale University will gather together to discuss the upcoming campaign. Sports Director Rich Coppola from Fox 61 will serve as moderator. The function will provide an opportunity for local professionals to network and enjoy an exciting afternoon of college basketball chatter.

The event will run from 12-1:30 p.m. Free for GNHCC members. The cost is $10 for non-members. Lunch will be provided courtesy of Quinnipiac University Athletics.
