Monday's Best

A daily look at the best of the local sports scene ...

It's getting closer and closer to March and postseason tournaments for high schools are starting to heat up.

-- The Southern Connecticut Conference plays its girls basketball semifinals Monday at Quinnipiac University's TD Bank Sports Center.

Career, No. 6 in the state poll, takes on No. 3 Hillhouse at 6 p.m., followed by No. 1 Mercy vs. Shelton at about 7:45 p.m.

-- Prefer high school hockey? LaSalle Academy of Providence travels to take on Notre Dame-West Haven at noon in what should be a good interstate clash.

-- In girls hockey, the CGHL playoffs get started/

The schedule: CCGHL Playoffs — Blue Division first round: No. 5 Amity/North Haven at No. 1 Hamden 4:15 p.m.; No. 3 Notre Dame-Fairfield at No. 2 Guilford (East Haven, DiLungo Rink) 5 p.m.

-- In college women's basketball, Quinnipiac travels to play at Bryant.
