Sunday's Best

A daily look at the best of the local sports scene ...

Southern Connecticut is the host of the Northeast-10 men's and women's swimming championships throughout the day. Both the men and women, two of the most dominant programs over the past decade in their respective league and sport in the region, are leading after two days of competition.

-- Well, the CIAC's new directive allowing make up games on Sunday is being used today.

Sheehan travels to play Xavier at 1 p.m. and East Hampton is at North Branford at 2:30 p.m. in boys basketball.

-- In men's college basketball, the MAAC-leading Fairfield Stags take on Rider at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard. Tip-off is 3:30 p.m. Fairfield is 11-1 in the MAAC.

-- Make it a double and take in the Fairfield women's basketball team's game against MAAC leading Marist, the Gonzaga of women's basketball. That game tips off at 1 p.m. Fairfield is 15-7 and 8-3 in league play. The Stags have knocked off Marist once each in the past two seasons. Marist is 20-2.

It's also a chance to catch up with Milford's Casey Dulin, a freshman who is seventh in scoring with 4.5 points per game. She is averaging just fewer than 10 minutes per game.

And each of these events gives you plenty of time to get home, prepare the wings and sit down to relax kickoff for the Super Bowl.
