Friday's Best

A daily look at the best of the local sports scene ...

-- High school hockey fans have been waiting a long time for New Canaan and Hamden to play. The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 18, then postponed twice before agreeing on this date.

Hamden is No. 3 in the Register state poll, New Canaan No. 1. Game time is 6 p.m. at Astorino Rink in Hamden.

-- In boys basketball, the two best games to see are Wilbur Cross at Xavier and Cromwell at Valley Regional. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Cross is tied for the Oronque lead and Xavier tops the Quinnipiac division.

Cromwell and Valley Regional are the top two teams in the Shoreline Large division.

-- The New Haven Athletic Center continues to host the best of the state's indoor track meets with Class L today. The meet starts at 4 p.m.

-- It's a quiet weekend on the college front, as both Yale's and Quinnipiac's men's hockey teams travel, as well as Yale's men's basketball team.

The Yale women's basketball team plays host to Harvard at 7 at Lee Amphitheater. Yale is in third place in the Ivy League, two games behind league-leading Harvard.

In AHL action, the Sound Tigers play host to Wilkes-Barre Scranton at 7
