Tuesday's Best

A daily look at the best of the local sports scene ...

-- Top-ranked Mercy is in Class LL. Hillhouse is in Class L. The two teams split in the regular season. Tuesday, the top two girls basketball teams in the state play for the final time this year in the Southern Connecticut Conference tournament championship. And if both teams go on to win state titles, this will be the game that determines the Register's final No. 1 ranking.
The game is at 7 p.m.

-- The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team tries to duplicate its 2010 magical postseason run starting with its home quarterfinal game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament against Rivier at 7.

A year ago Mitch Oliver's Falcons took the DIII basketball world by storm with its upset over William Paterson on a last-second half-court shot from Hamden's Byron Reaves. You can see the video here. It's worth another look.
