Journalism scholarship offered

The Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance is accepting applications from high school seniors for the seventh annual Bohdan Kolinsky Memorial Journalism Scholarship.

The award is $1,000. Applications must be received by Jan. 25, 2010.

Named for a longtime scholastic sports editor of the Hartford Courant who died in 2003, the Kolinsky Scholarship supports college study leading to a career in sports journalism. The scholarship is renewable annually and at increasing amounts if the student meets certain standards. Grants over four years may total $6,500.

Every applicant must submit a completed application form, a personal history, an essay, academic transcripts and test scores, a letter of reference and three published samples of his or her writing. Details and forms are available at , the Alliance’s web site.

The winner will be honored at the Alliance's Gold Key dinner April 25 at the Aqua Turf, Southington.
