Summer of Opportunity

Connecticut has had a pretty impressive run with hosting sporting events this spring and summer, and we're not even talking about the annual events such as the Travelers and Pilot Pen Tennis.

Stop for a moment and think about what's been played in our state over the past eight weeks:

U.S. men's soccer exhibition at Rentschler Field May 25.

Major League Lacrosse senior All-Star game at Yale Bowl, featuring the U.S. national team on June 6

WNBA All-Stars vs. U.S. women's national team at Mohegan Sun this past Saturday.

Still coming:

U.S. women's soccer exhibition Saturday at Rentschler Field.

U.S. gymnastics championships at the XL Center August 11-14.

U.S. women's basketball exhibition games against Australia Sept. 10 and against Spain on Sept. 12, both at the XL Center

Granted, it's not like the Giants are returning to Yale Bowl, but still, not a bad little run for the area.
